Bakery selling expired goods busted in Wattala

COLOMBO (News 1st):- Expired bakery items and cakes including 1 and a half tons of food was found at a Wattala storage facility today (February 2). The expired food was discovered following a raid that was conducted by the Consumer Affairs Authority and the Police Special Task Force. The raid was conducted on a leading food company with a number of outlets. The CAA stated that the expiry date of products were removed and had been re-labelled. Changed labels of ingredients that were used to make cake including the food was worth Rs. 15 million After investigations, it was revealed that the relevant company produces food items and owns restaurants, exports bakery goods and cake ingredients to the USA, Dubai, and Germany and supplies food to 5-star hotels as well.  Legal action is to be taken against this particular company and the equipment and the storage facility have been sealed and is guarded by police.
