Colombo (News 1st): Parliamentarian M. A. Sumanthiran expressed the following views in a media briefing held at Jaffna today (Jan 28). He noted that the Presidential Commission issued a statement yesterday (Jan 27) regarding the Attorney General. He added that a letter had been directed to the Attorney General requesting to free Wasantha Karannagoda and former spokesperson for the Navy, Dassanayake from this case. He stressed that this is a very serious political intervention. He pointed out that the Attorney General's Department is an independent institute and there has been an attempt to prevent a case that was submitted by the Attorney General by the Presidential Commission. He went onto note;
"The Government is only digging up this case of the abduction of 11 youth to display it to the UN and to other international entities. The Attorney General interfered with that. Although none of the facts were taken into account, we were waiting until even one was taken into account. The present government has taken critical measures to halt this case. It is illegal to utilize commissions and do such things. We will go to court against this."
