Colombo (News 1st): Ayati National Center, Sri Lanka’s first childcare centre for children with disabilities was declared open today (Jan 25). The event was graced by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
The Presidential media unit said researchers have revealed that one in five children suffer from a minor, physical, or mental disorder. Ayati National Center has been established through a joint agreement by the public and private sectors to provide a solution so that such illnesses can be identified and cured.
The construction work was carried out by the Sri Lanka Army in a year and the expenditure incurred was Rs. 550 million. A range of services, including basic screening for physical and mental disorders, speech and language therapy, hearing aid, physiotherapy, family therapy, and occupational therapy will be provided.
