Trincomalee port to be turned into a industrial and tourism zone

COLOMBO(News 1st) - The Ministry of Ports and Shipping stated that the Trincomalee port and surrounding areas are expected to be converted into an industrial and tourism zone under a new project. The Secretary to the Ministry, M.M.P.K. Mayadunne noted that a special committee will be appointed to ascertain the feasibility of the project. The committee is expected to submit recommendations for the project plan and on how to attract a suitable investor. Accordingly, the Trincomalee port and surrounding area will be converted into a site that attracts more tourists. Meanwhile, Minister Johnston Fernando engaged in an inspection visit of the Trincomalee harbour yesterday.
