2 police officials sentenced to 28-years in prison for soliciting a bribe

Colombo (News 1st): A Police Inspector and Police Constable were sentenced to 28 years in prison after they were found guilty of 04 separate indictments for soliciting a bribe of Rs. 10,000. The sentence was delivered by Colombo High Court Judge Sashi Mahendran and the defendants were ordered to pay Rs. 25,000 each, as a fine. On the 09th of August 2009, the Police Inspector and Constable attached to the Aralaganwila Police arrested a man for the possession of venison. However, they had obtained a bribe of Rs. 10,000 from the suspects to refrain from taking legal action. The Police Inspector served as the Personal Assistant to the Puttlam SP prior to his arrest.
