Colombo (News 1st) - UNP Parliamentarian Hirunika Premachandra convened a media briefing in Colombo today. The MP noted that the judges had not given the death sentence to Duminda Silva in vain and reminded those gathered that Silva and several others killed 4 people in broad daylight. She noted that there is no reason to release Duminda Silva. The Parliamentarian stated that evidence provided by Duminda Silva's MSD officers, during the trial, revealed that Silva was drunk at the time of the incident and that he ordered an individual to take the T56 firearm. She noted that a verdict was delivered that this was a premeditated murder, after taking all this into consideration. She noted that a few days ago some people leveled accusations that one judge from the high courts had acquitted Duminda Silva and that 2 other judges were unfair on Duminda Silva and gave him the death sentence. In response to these accusations, MP Premachandra noted that the appeal to the verdict was taken before a 5 judge bench at the supreme court and that they too confirmed the verdict delivered by the High Court.
