COLOMBO (News 1st) – The Ministry of Agriculture states that over 100,000 acres of cultivated lands have been damaged by recent floods.
State Minister Vidura Wickramanayake said that the majority of these lands are paddy cultivations.
He also said that fields in Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Vanni districts as well as in the Eastern Province have been severely damaged due to the floods.
The Minister said compensation will be provided to those affected.
He added that the assessment of the damage that occurred to the cultivated lands has already commenced and the compensation will be paid through the Agricultural and Agrarian Insurance Board.
