Colombo (News 1st): Police say that cases have been filed against 89 shop owners for selling rice over the control price. They added that within the course of two days 1430 shops were raided and 512 traders who sold rice at high prices were discovered.
The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) recently announced the maximum retail price of a kilogram of local Samba and Nadu rice at Rs. 98. Accordingly, the Consumer Affairs Authority and the Police jointly launched special raids in search of traders selling rice at higher prices.
Meanwhile, the National Organizer of All Ceylon Farmers Federation, Namal Karunaratne has revealed that more than 5 million kilos of rice have been recovered from the Pannigamuwa Government rice store in Weerawila.
