Court orders to hand over mobile devices and sim cards of the Swiss Embassy Staffer and her husband

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Criminal Investigations Department today requested the court to issue an order to hand over to the CID the two mobile devices and SIM cards used by the Swiss Embassy employee and her husband. Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne ordered for the Prisons Superintendent to provide the CID with the necessary facilities to record statements from the Swiss Embassy employee, who is currently in remand custody. The court ordered the Manager of the Cab Company, used by the Swiss Embassy employee, to provide to the CID, GPS and electronic data on the said cab on the day the alleged abduction had taken place. The Chief Magistrate also ordered the company to release the SIM card and mobile used by the cab to the CID, in order to obtain a government analyst report. Meanwhile, the Swiss Embassy employee, Gania Banister Francis, was referred to the National Mental Health Insitute today as well for a medical evaluation. Our reporter noted that she was taken back to remand prison following the medical evaluation. The Swiss Foreign Minister Ignacio Cassius had a telephone conversation today with Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunawardena to discuss the detaining of the Embassy employee. A statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs notes that the Swiss Foreign Minister had requested that all support be extended to expedite the processes considering the friendly ties between the two countries.
