Breach of convention in Patali's arrest - Deputy Speaker

Colombo (News 1st) - Deputy Speaker Ananda Kumarasiri notes that a breach of convention occurred during the arrest of MP Patali Champika Ranawaka. Kumarasiri noted that while there is no law stating that the Speaker should be informed, it is a regular convention to inform the Speaker of Parliament prior to the arrest of an MP. He went onto state that he was informed about the arrest of MP Patali Champika, minutes before the arrest. Kumarasiri notes that he received a phone call from the Senior Superintendent Police in-charge of the Colombo Crimes Division about three minutes before the arrest of MP Ranwaka
