Showery conditions expected to worsen over 3 provinces

Colombo (News 1st): The Meteorological department noted that showery condition over the island, particularly in the Northern, Eastern, and Uva provinces is expected to enhance to some extent from today (17 December). They added that showers or thundershowers will occur in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Central, and Uva provinces and in the Hambanthota district. Several spells of showers will occur in the North-Western province. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places elsewhere after 2.00 p.m. Heavy rainfall of about 75 to 100 mm is forecasted in the Eastern and Uva provinces as well as in  Polonnaruwa and Mullaitivu districts. Fairly heavy falls of about 75 mm are likely at some places in the Sabaragamuwa and Western provinces and in the Nuwara-Eliya and Galle districts. The department went onto note that the wind speed can be increased up to 40 kmph at times in North-western, Central and Uva provinces and in the Hambanthota district. Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces during the morning.
