COLOMBO (News 1st) – Nearly 800 mobile phones have been discovered in the possession of inmates so far this year. An official attached to the Prisons Department stated that most were found from the Magazine Prison, Colombo.

The Department states that they do not have proper facilities to place them in their custody, however, further raids are underway.

According to the Police, information has come to light that notorious drug kingpins who are currently incarcerated are involved in drug smuggling.

Police added that around 10 such drug dealers have been identified and the relevant authorities have been notified regarding this matter.

Investigations have revealed that these inmates are carrying out drug deals through social media applications downloaded onto their mobile phones.
