COLOMBO (News 1st) – The Special Task Force stated that 22 organized criminals were arrested from operations conducted in the time period following the Presidential Election.

The Police said, most of the criminals arrested between the 19th of November and yesterday (December 14), were involved in incidents relating to drug trafficking and extortion.

The Task Force added that most criminals arrested, were accomplices of organised criminal bosses Angoda Lokka and Uru Juwa.

The Police Task Force went on to note that the arrested were remanded following operations that took place in Himbutana, Angoda, Ranala, Jalthara and Hanwella areas.

The Task Force further added that there was a significant drop in drug trafficking and extortion related complaints since the arrests.
