Colombo (News 1st): The Dambulla Specialist Economic Centre has stated that the prices of upcountry and low country vegetables have increased. As such the prices of leeks, carrots, beans and other vegetables cultivated in the upcountry have seen prices increase by 60%. Meanwhile, the prices of 'low country' vegetables like okra, long beans, bitter gourd, brinjals have gone up by 100%. The price increase has been attributed to the drop in production owing to the inclement weather. Farmers state that although there is a decent price at present, that the harvest has been low.
