Colombo (News 1st) - Minister Wimal Weerawansa says that he would not remain in a Government that signs the MCC agreement.
Addressing his supporters today the Minister noted that there have been some in the Government that had said that the Government has not reached a final decision on the MCC and that views expressed by him earlier were personal opinions.
Weerawansa noted that those personal opinions that he expressed about the MCC, had been repeated on stages and political rallies which featured President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and PM Mahinda Rajapaksa. He added that none of the leaders had stopped him from making such statements and stated that this was an endorsement of the views expressed by him.
The Minister noted that he brought up this issue during the last cabinet meeting and stated that a decision was reached to appoint a committee headed by Dr Lalithasiri Gunaruwan in order to assess the MCC agreement. However, he assured those gathered that the MCC agreement would not be signed, adding that he would not remain in the Government if it is signed.
