Colombo (News 1st): Sri Lanka became the fastest athletics team today (December 6) after clinching Gold in both Men's and Women's 100 meters relay at the 13th South Asian Games in Nepal. Sri Lanka is currently placed 3rd in medals with 23 Gold, 42 Silver and 69 Bronze Medals. The 4 x 100 relay event at the 13th South Asian Games took place this morning. Athletes representing Sri Lanka, India, Maldives, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal participated in the event. The Sri Lanka men's team clocked a timing of 39.14 seconds and in the process established a new South Asian record beating the previous record by India in 2004 when they crossed the line in 39.91 seconds. Himasha Eshan, Minoj Suranga, Chanuka Sandeepa, and Yupun Priyadarshana represented Sri Lanka at the event. Meanwhile, women's 4 x 100 meters relay team also won the Gold Medal at the event today.  The Sri Lankan women's 4x100 meters relay team clocked a timing of 44.89 seconds to win the Gold Medal. Laskshika Sugandi, Sadeepa Anderson, Amasha de Silva, and Sarangi Lakmini represented Sri Lanka. Nilani Rathnayaka won the first Gold Medal for the day for Sri Lanka in the 5000 meters race. She clocked a timing of 16 minutes and 55.18 seconds. This is also her second gold medal at this year's event.
