Colombo (News 1st) - 14,447 people from 4300 families have been affected by the inclement weather. The Disaster Management Centre said 1169 people were displaced while 270 houses were damaged by adverse conditions. According to the Met. Department's latest forecast Prevailing showery conditions in Northern, Eastern, North-central, Uva and Central provinces are expected to continue. Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Northern, North-central, Eastern, Uva and Central provinces as well as in the Hambantota district. Showers or thundershowers will occur elsewhere after 1.00 p.m. Heavy showers above 100 mm are likely at some places in the Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu, Mannar, Vavuniya, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Ampara, Nuwara-Eliya, Badulla and Monaragala districts. Fairly heavy showers about 75-100 mm are likely at some places in Sabaragamuwa, Southern and Western provinces (Galle, Matara, Hambanthota, Kegalle, Ratnapura, Gampaha, Kaluthara and Colombo districts) and in Matale and Kandy districts. Fairly strong gusty winds up to 50 kmph can be expected over the island, particularly in Northern, North-Central, North-Western, Central and Uva provinces and in Trincomalee district.
