Contradictions in alleged detention of the Swiss embassy staffer-Dinesh Gunawardana

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Minister of Foreign Affairs Dinesh Gunawardena shared his thoughts at a media briefing regarding the alleged abduction and interrogation of a Swiss Embassy staffer. Minister stated that the timestamps of her arrival and departure and her place are contradictory. He added that the ambassador has informed them that the alleged employee is still on Sri Lankan soil and she and her family are safe. He went on to note that a written document was provided to them explaining the incident that occurred. Journalist: Was her medical report provided? Ravinatha Ariyasinha, the secretary to the ministry stated that a report compiled by a Swiss doctor was provided to the local authorities last Sunday. He added that she had been examined via a video and whether a local doctor had examined the victim is yet to be confirmed. Journalist: Swiss Foreign Affairs Ministry calls for an explanation on the contradictory statements in the issue? Secretary responded that the ambassador requested for an investigation and although the local authorities were not provided with the name of the victim they carried out the investigation. He went on to note that as soon as they saw a contradiction they informed the ambassador.
