11th edition of the Annual Research Symposium begins

Colombo (News 1st): The Annual Research Symposium 2019 of the University of Colombo began in Colombo today (November 22). The foremost research event of the university marks its eleventh edition of the Annual Research Symposium this year. The theme chosen for the Annual Research Symposium 2019 is “Health & Wellbeing”. The theme aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Wellbeing) of the United Nations. At this event, the University’s academic staff, along with affiliated researchers, present the research projects that they have been working on during the year. Traditionally, the inaugural ceremony features a keynote address on the selected theme. This year, due to the involvement of the Executives and Vice-Chancellors of the Asian University Alliance membership, the keynote address was replaced by a panel discussion on the Asian experience of research and innovation. It is hoped that the ideas generated would enable all the universities in the alliance to reflect on how their overall culture relating to research and innovation may be improved. The Symposium was also supported by the Ministry of Higher Education, highlighting its value in the promotion of our nation’s research and development.
