80% voter turnout for 2019 Presidential Election

Colombo (News 1st): The voting for the presidential election 2019, to appoint the 7th Executive President of this country, took place across 12,845 polling stations islandwide. The election began at 700 this morning and ended at 5:00 pm. The National Election Commission said the election was conducted in a peaceful manner and that the voter turnout for the presidential election this year was approximately 80%. A total number of 159,92,096 voters were eligible to vote at this year's presidential election.

District turnout

  • District returning officer of Colombo Sunil Kannangara said the voter turn out in the Colombo district was over 75%.
  • The highest number of registered voters in this year's election was reported from the Gampaha District, with 1,751,892. District returning officer of Gampaha, Sunil Jayalath said, the total voter turnout today was 82%
  • District returning officer of Kalutara, U.D.C Jayalal said, total voter turnout today exceeded 75%
  • District returning officer of Kandy, Tissa Karunaratne said the Kandy district reported a voter turn out of 80%.
  • District returning officer of Matale, S.M.G.K Perera said, the Matale district reported a voter turn out of 75%.
  • District returning officer of Nuwara-Eliya, Rohana Pushpakumara said, the Nuwara-Eliya district reported a voter turn out of 80%.
  • District returning officer of Galle, Somarathne Vidanapathirana said, the Galle district reported a voter turn out of 80%.
  • District returning officer of Matara Pradeep Ratnayaka said the Matara district reported a voter turn out of 80%.
  • District returning officer of Hambantota, Bandula Harischandra said, the Hambantota district reported a voter turn out of 80%.
  • District returning officer of Jaffna Nagalingam Vedanayagam said the Jaffna district reported a voter turn out of 66.5%. Voter turnout in the Kilinochchi district was reported at 73%. Voter turnover in Vavuniya of the Wanni district was reported at 75%. Mullaitivu 76.2% and Manna 71%.

  • District returning officer of the Kurunegala district, Gamini Ilangarathne said, the Kurunegala district reported a total voter turnout of 80%.
  • Total voter turnout in the Puttalam district was reported at 75% and voter turnout in the Anuradapura district was reported at 75%.
  • District returning officer of the Polonnaruwa district, Panduka Abeywardena said, the Polonnaruwa district reported a voter turn over of 80.2%.
  • District returning officer of the Badulla district, Damayanthi Paranagama said, the Badulla district reported a voter turn out of 80%.
  • Voter turn out in the Moneragala district was reported at 80%.
  • District returning officer of the Ratnapura district, Malani Lokupothagama said, the Ratnapura district reported a voter turn out of 84%.
  • District returning officer of the Kegalle district, Chandrasiri Bandara said, the Kegalle district reported a voter turn out of 75%.
