Colombo (News 1st): Voting for the presidential election will commence in less than 36 hours. Election propaganda activities that took place for more than one and a half months, ended at midnight yesterday (November 13), while voting centers are currently preparing for the 16th. Thirty-five presidential candidates put forward their views and mandates to the general public, and together with their supporters, engaged in election propaganda activities. As per Election Laws, all propaganda activities ended at midnight yesterday (November 13). Police media spokesperson SSP Ruwan Gunesekera noted that the public rallies during this period, are prohibited. He added that candidates cannot visit houses for propaganda activities. He stressed that the police will act strictly in this regard. He went onto note that if anyone engages in any prohibited activities, they will be video recorded, and the recording will be presented in courts. He said they will identify the suspects,  arrest them and produce them before the court. All presidential candidates were allowed to maintain one office in every area with a polling station since October 7th. The police media spokesperson said operations at those offices cannot continue as usual. SSP Gunasekara noted that the ability to conduct an operation in the office that was permitted to be established in each polling area will end at midnight today (November 14). Accordingly, with effect from midnight today, only one election office can operate within a polling area. Meanwhile, police have been deployed for security purposes, while officers were deployed this morning to areas with fewer officers such as Kalutara, and Colombo. A special security program will commence from tomorrow morning (November 15).
