Colombo (News 1st): A public meeting attended by Presidential Candidate of the Jathika Sanwardana Peramuna Dr.Rohan Pallewatta was held in Gampaha today (November 8). A group of intellectuals and supporters attended the event. Presidential Candidate Dr Rohan Pallewatta noted:
"Many countries invited me to obtain their citizenship. But I could not go against my conscience. I could not give an oath against my country to obtain citizenship of another. I build the sensor in the airbag that comes in a vehicle. Many said that it cannot be done. But we have been doing that for 20 years. I decided to challenge this system and to contest the Presidential Election when I realized that this country will not be directed towards the proper direction by chance. Then many more joined me. You have to spend 40 percent of your household income, for your children's education in a country where education is free. According to UNICEF reports, we are in the top 10 countries when it comes to malnutrition. The current politicians might like that number. They might like that 15 percent. Because then only they can lead this country. Should I become the President or not within my lifetime I will change this number to at least 1 - 2 percent. If a normal citizen visits a bank and tries to deposit an amount higher than the usual amount we deposit, the bank will question from where we obtained this amount. Will they reveal the source of these amounts. No. Rs 10 trillion is nowhere to be found. Don't you think this is the Rs 10 trillion that you and I lost? Isn't it fair to think so? No matter who becomes the President, the country is already in a deep economic crisis. To pay off the debt for the next year we will have to obtain more loans."
