Colombo (News 1st): A public rally to ensure the victory of Presidential Candidate of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Gotabaya Rajapaksa was held in Polonnaruwa today (November 8). The rally was held at the Manampitiya ground in Polonnaruwa, and Gotabaya Rajapaksa received a warm reception from the people in Polonnaruwa. State Minister Wasantha Senanayake attended the rally in support of Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

Speaking at the meeting Presidential Candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa noted that while they warmly welcome Wasantha Senanayaka, he is supporting SLPP today because of the policies that they have put forward to establish national security and strengthen economic development in the country. He said the low-income earners and those who do not receive Samurdhi benefits, those with special needs, and patients, will be given a bag of goods free of charge. Rajapaksa stressed that there are approximately 100,000 unskilled jobs in the state sector. He noted that they will provide one state sector job to every poor family to uplift them from poverty.

Speaking at the rally Parliamentarian Wasantha Senanayake noted that today he is getting married to the SLPP. He noted that he did not come alone, but brought with him the entire Student front of the UNP. He added that he removed the entire green blood union and brought them here.  He said he brought with him the younger brother of Sydney Jayaratne as well.

Meanwhile, Presidential Candidate of the SLPP, Gotabaya Rajapaksa attended a public rally in Ratnapura last evening (October 8).  Leader of the SLPP Mahinda Rajapaksa also attended the public rally.

Speaking at the rally Mahinda Rajapaksa noted that they ended the war to unite this country, and not to divide it and to create a country where everyone can live in peace. He said this is why they are against terrorism. He noted that their opponents spread false rumours and for four years they slung mud at them. He added that for four years, they (UNP) tried to take them to courts and nowhere in history was there a government like this that took revenge. He said they speak of Thajudeens murder when elections near and they bring out the matter, but then it gets covered again. He said the matter will only emerge when elections near.

Speaking at the rally Presidential Candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa said;

“I was not a member of parliament, I never served as a minister. But I fulfilled my responsibilities. However, if a minister who does not fulfill his duties, claims that he will carry out the duties as the president of this country, I cannot believe this. We speak of the future. Our action plan is future-oriented. However, there are many rumors against me being shared through social media. I do not think the people of this country are foolish to believe this. I also make this very clear. This political culture must be changed. We must take only policy-based decisions. In my view, regardless of your political preferences, you must vote for someone who presents policies that you can agree with. You must be aware that an incident took place last evening. We were very clear with our stance, no matter who commits the crime, they must be punished and the law must be enforced against them. I do not approve of such things. When we establish our government, we will establish the rule of law.”
