Gotabaya Rajapaksa promises to empower rural development

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Presidential Candidate of the SLPP, Gotabaya Rajapaksa attended a public rally in Baduraliya yesterday (November 06). The public rally which was held at the Baduraliya Public stadium was organized by MP Rohitha Abeygunewardena. Leader of the SLPP, Mahinda Rajapaksa also attended the public rally. Addressing the gathering Gotabaya Rajapaksa, noted that their manifesto focuses on rural development as a majority of Sri Lankan citizens continue to live in rural villages. The candidate promised to restart drinking water projects for villages facing difficulties in accessing drinking water. Rajapaksa also stated that he plans on developing rural hospitals and rural schools. SLPP Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa speaking at the event accused the Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka of being unable to secure Army headquarters from terrorist bombers while reminding that his brother was also targeted by suicide bombers. He went onto say that while their camp focuses on their vision and policies, the opposition camp tends to focus on fantasies and fairytales. Another public rally in support of the Presidential candidate of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Gotabaya Rajapaksa was held in Kegalle today (November 07). The people of Kegalle extended a warm welcome to Gotabaya Rajapaksa. "As we all know, the youth of the country is under a lot of pressure. The reason being the lack of quality education, and lack of job opportunities. But we have laid out plans to solve these issues with a clear vision...We will create a long term national policy and enable students from grade 7 onwards to enter various streams of education and gain better knowledge... We will provide IT training to those who enter the Arts stream, so they can contribute to the economy directly, once their graduate." - Gotabaya Rajapaksa
