COLOMBO (News 1st) - The SLPP states that the  Millenium Challenge Corporation agreement will be voided under a Gotabaya Rajapaksa Presidency. Responding to questions raised by journalists during a media briefing today (Nov 6), MP Bandula Gunawardene stated that Presidential Candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa in a letter to Ven. Kashyapa thero had stated that he would void international agreements signed by the current Government, during the period after the declaration of the Presidential election. When a question was raised as to why candidate Rajapaksa had not mentioned the MCC agreement directly in his letter, MP Gunawardene stated that it is because they have no idea what other international agreements the government would enter into before relinquishing power. However, when the MP was further pressed on the matter he finally stated that they would "stop the MCC agreement" if the current Government proceeds to sign it. When a similar question was posed to Co-media spokesperson for Gotabaya Rajapaksa, MP Dullas Alahaperuma, the MP noted that MP Gunawardene had provided a clear response to the question and went onto explain that 40 out of 43 countries that have signed the MCC compact have US military bases in them.
