COLOMBO (News 1st) – General Mahesh Senanayaka, the presidential candidate of the National People’s Party, attended a district conference in Wennappuwa yesterday (Nov 3).

General Mahesh Senanayake:

Sri Lanka is not a poor country. This is a country that was made poor. They are only namesake politicians. It’s unfortunate to say, that its the politicians who divided us, sold our country, and made it poor.

What politicians do to our country is equivalent to what terrorists do. I promise, I will not back down until I change this political culture and system.

Even the constitution says the president of this country should be neutral. If the president is not neutral, he is compelled to shoulder the garbage of his party. That’s what happened in 2015.

There was a constitutional crisis in October last year. The people of this country hoped for the army commander to take over the country. However we did not join, as we wanted to give the opportunity to the independent judiciary that operates within an independent framework.”
