Colombo (News 1st) - The Met. Department noted that the low pressure area in the bay of Begal is currently located to the West of Sri Lanka and is on a tragectory which is leading it away from the country. The department expects a gradual reduction in the effects of the low pressure system on the country in the coming days. However for now showery conditions are expected to enhance to some extent over the Northern province, particularly in the Jaffna, Mannar and Kilinochchi districts, as well as in the North-western province and in the Anuradhapura district today. The Department also warns that there is a high possibility for severe lightning during evening thundershowers over Northern, North-central and North-western provinces Showers or thundershowers are also expected to occur in the Western and Southern provinces. Showers or thundershowers are expected elsewhere particularly in the Northern, North-central, North-western and Central provinces after 1.00 p.m. Heavy falls about 100-150 mm can be expected at some places in Jaffna, Mannar and Kilinochchi districts. Heavy falls above 100 mm can be expected at some places in North-western, Southern and Central provinces and in Anuradhapura district. Windy conditions are expected to increase up to 50 kmph at times in the Western and Southern provinces.
