COLOMBO(News 1st):- President's Counsel Ali Sabry expressed his views on what action would be taken with regard to the Aruwakkalu Garbage Dump under a Gotabaya Rajapaksa Government. Speaking at an event held in Puttalam, Presidents Counsel Sabry said: "Before I came here this evening I phoned Hon. Gotabaya Rajapaksa and asked him. A big problem faced by the people here is the garbage problem. How can we solve this garbage issue, which has become a massive problem? Trucks are travelling through villages. People are meeting with accidents. He told me that the people handling this have messed it up and that the plan he had was different. His plan had been to scientifically process wet garbage. My plan had been to compact it, pack the garbage, send it in the trains to Aruwakalu and put it in the existing ditches in the Cement factories. They completely threw off this plan. They have a deal with the truckers, another with the cement manufacturers. They spend about Rs 98,000 a day on about 40 trucks and send them. The road is broken as well. They have put it where people live and made a mess. He stated that when he went to China, he identified a technology that helps wet garbage be processed on-site. This would have allowed Colombo garbage to be processed in Colombo. Within a short time of him assuming office, he will put an end to this bringing of garbage to Puttalam."
