COLOMBO (News 1st)  The agricultural policy of the National People’s Power was unveiled at Peradeniya today (October 22).

The ceremony held under the auspices of Presidential Candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake with the aim of bringing prosperity to the country.

Anura Kumara Dissanayake:

“There were 32,000 tanks and now we are left with just 14,000. But only 2000 have been preserved. Our agricultural lands have reduced by 50%.

We should change our housing policy. All houses built by the government should be apartments. Within 10 years we will have to fill at least 2mn acres of land.

We will gazette this plan. We will take over the lands given to multinational companies and hand them over to the farming community. Although these are private lands, they cannot cultivate in these. You need strict leaders. Not white vans. Some commend our policies. Some don’t like it.

Let’s see who has already done this. I can clearly tell you that Namal can manage agriculture more than anyone of them. Some are looking for magicians. Vihara Maha Devi tried to save the country. Then King Dutugemunu tried. His brother came after. Then came the son of a friend of the poor. These people can’t build the country. It has to be teamwork.”
