News 1st exclusive with presidential candidate Ven Battaramulla Seelaratana Thero

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Venerable Battaramulla Seelaratana Thero, the presidential candidate of the Janasetha Peramuna had an interview with News 1st. Journalist: First and foremost why did you decide to run for president? Venerable Battaramulla Seelaratana Thero said that he intends to take a long journey to be the presidential candidate in Sri Lanka. The Thero added that every party that contests the presidential election is out here to protect their families instead of the families they ought to protect the general public. The Thero was confident that he would be the president of the country and conveyed his reluctance towards others as they all are corrupted. Thero added that he expects to save Sri Lanka from this corruption. Journalist: Now when you take a look at the current situation you are representing the Maha Sangha, you are a Venerable Thero of the country. Now we have seen Venerable Theros coming into politics in our country. What makes you special? Thero noted that he met the political parties, and the Janaseta Peramuna Political party and decided to run for the presidency as he was young. Thero added that the Maha Sangha's long journey and the country shaped them into what they are. Thero went on to note that the Maha Sangha has been here for a long time to protect the country. Journalist: Another very serious topic in this country is foreign intervention, the United States of America, India, China all these countries have an interest because of where Sri Lanka is located; you have been a very vocal figure; you've been on television and radio talking about this. What is your stance on this? Thero questioned who needs foreign intervention and confidently stated that Sri Lanka could generate everything locally. Journalist: What is your final message to the Sri Lankan voter? Thero thanked everyone for the support and he requested the mandate from the public. Thero promised that under his rule it would be one country one nation.
