Technology will help us battle corruption : Gotabaya Rajapaksa

COLOMBO(News 1st) - The election campaign of Presidential Candidate of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Gotabaya Rajapaksa was held in the Kegalle district today (October 17). The rally organized at the Ashoka grounds in Rambukkana was organized by former Chief Minister Maheepala Herath. Gotabaya Rajapaksa noted that the economic plan presented today was the reset of the economic plan halted during the previous government. He went on to note that he has come forward with a team of specialists who could implement the plan. He added that all the governments that came into power were accused of corruption charges, however, the current government was accused most for corruption. He further added that he would bring corruption to an end with the help of technology no matter the status of the corrupted individuals. Presidential candidate further added that when easy procedures are implemented to obtain license and permits they would be able to reduce corruption. He requested the public to have faith in him as he fulfilled all his duties in his capacity where he was assigned. He went on to note that he served in the military for 20 years and he was even recognized by the presidents of the UNP as well. He added that in addition, he made Colombo the rapidly developing city in Asia during his tenure as the Secretary to the Ministry of Urban Development. He shared that he is a person who likes challenges and accepts them. Opposition Leader of the Kegalle Pradeshiya Sabha Upali Dissanayake attended the rally to support Gotabaya Rajapaksa. Meanwhile, Presidential Candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa met with the political representatives of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party in Karandupana this afternoon. MP Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, Dushmantha Mithrapala and several other representatives of the SLFP attended the event. Gotabaya Rajapaksa noted that when Bandaranaike left the United National Party and found SLFP he did not envisage that D.A. Rajapaksa would join him. He went on to note that every privilige the public enjoy, are thanks to the principles of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. He added that when Maithripala Sirisena joined the UNP, he knew that he will not last long there. Presidential candidate acknowledged that everyone is disappointed in politicians as people don't like the prevailing political culture. Gotabaya Rajapaksa went on to note that it was high time to come forward to serve the country based on their policies and if they don't, the people will be left with no alternatives. He extended his gratitude to the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and its leadership for supporting him and he promised that as brothers and sisters in the future government they would rule together. According to him, the coalition between the SLFP and SLPP was not merely based on the election and he has presented a policy framework that the SLFP could support without an issue. UPFA MP Ranjith Siyambalapitiya noted that they are ready to sign another agreement with the future president Gotabaya Rajapaksa and they also intend to sign an agreement as an alliance. MP further added that they are committed to seeing Gotabaya Rajapaksa emerge as the next president of the country.
