1. The National Elections Commission warned if Civil Groups file legal action against the media over their conduct, the NEC would stand-by the complainants. 2. The Jaffna International Airport will be in operation starting today (October 17). 3. Six suspects including the father of Kanjipani Imran who had been detained at the Boosa Prison were released on bail by Galle Chief Magistrate Harshana Kekunawela. 4. President Maithripala Sirisena has ordered to provide maximum security for all the candidates who will be contesting the upcoming Presidential election. 5. The Constitutional Council has approved to appoint Saman Sri Rathnayake as the Commissioner-General of the National Elections Commission. 6. The Presidential Commission appointed to investigate and take action with regard to the April 21st attacks says a team headed by a DIG has been appointed to investigate complaints. 7. CMC councillor Sumith Passaperuma says there are around 60,000 complaints filed regarding unfair charges as fines levied by the installed parking meters. 8. The National Elections Commission rejected 78,403 postal voting applications for the November Presidential Election. 9.
