COLOMBO(News 1st) - A meeting was organized today (October 15) to convey the policies of the National People's Power Movement. The meeting was organized at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute and was held under the auspices of the Presidential candidate of the National People's Power Movement Anura Kumara Dissanayake. Anura Kumara Dissanayake noted that in 2016 over 5146 people died of cancer revealing that at least 14 patients meet their demise daily while at least 6 people die as a result of chronic kidney disease every day. He added that a country will never develop with a sick population and it was not moral that a person's right to live is purely based on the amount of wealth he has in his possession. He noted that wealthy people go to The Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore while the poor remain for the sake of local treatment. He added that their wealth should be investigated as well. He further added that the former Prime Minister D.M Jayaratne got his treatment in Singapore for Rs 29.4mn from the President's fund. He went on to note that however when he met D.M Jayaratne and inquired about his health condition, he had conveyed that it was a mild cough. Anura Kumara stated that D.M. Jayaratne has clearly spent Rs 29.4mn on a mild cough. Anura Kumara added that the main aim of their policy framework is to ensure that everyone will have a similar right of access to free health care. He went on to note that the politicians use the political arena to discuss their personal issues, not to discuss the issues and problems faced by the general public. He further added that they are debating on who Thondaman will support and who booed at the SLFP of which none of them are pressing issues. "Does anyone care that someone hooted at Duminda or John? We don't care. These are not the concerns of the general public. What is the relation between the hooting and the problems faced by the general public?" he questioned.
