COLOMBO (News 1st) - Police had opened fire at an SUV carrying Excise Officials for failing to comply with an order to stop in Ariviyal-Nagar in Killinochchi. Police spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekera speaking to News 1st stated that a group of police officers were dispatched to make an arrest after the Killinochchi Anti-Vice Unit received a tip off about a large haul of cannabis being transported in an SUV. When Police Officers had attempted to intercept the suspicious jeep, it contunued its journey without complying. The Police spokesperson stated that the Police Officers at the checkpoint had opened fire at the SUV and one of the individuals in the vehicle was injured and was rushed to the Killinochchi hospital. It was later revealed, those travelling in the SUV were personnel attached to the Kebitigollewa Excise Division and the injured was their informant.
