REUTERS: - A largely peaceful student protest against alleged acts of corruption in public education turned violent when some protesters hurled stones at police guarding the entrance to Bogota's Palace of Justice on Thursday (October 10). Police had to beat a retreat as they were pelted by large rocks thrown by masked protesters, but eventually regrouped and dispersed the demonstrators from Bogota's iconic Bolivar Plaza. Thursday saw major protests by students in cities throughout Colombia according to local media. According to local media, the ex director of the Extension Institute of the Distrital University has been accused of improper use of some 10.49 billion Colombian pesos ($3,021,749 USD).
