Security forces vigilant to safeguard the general public : Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Archbishop of Colombo, His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith expressed views on various statements made on national security at a religious event held in Kudapaduwa, Negombo. His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith noted that important vital information has come to light and hence a letter was sent to the president requesting him to provide security at least till the end of this year. His Eminence added that he is grateful for the President for taking steps to initiate security measures and at the same time Cardinal warned of the future foreign intervention. His Eminence further added that it would harm the country. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defence said that thorough attention has been given to the reports which suggest the possibility of another terror attack. Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, General Shantha Kottegoda speaking to News 1st said that according to information received through intelligence reports, the information being spread about another attack is false. But he stressed that the information will not be taken lightly and necessary measures will be taken definitely. According to the Secretary, a special security program will be implemented at specifically identified locations. Adding further, the Secretary stressed that the security level, in general, is at a firm state. Meanwhile, journalists questioned Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva about the safety of the country. Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva conveyed that every life is valuable and the security forces will provide maximum security. He added that President Maithripla Sirisena convened the Defence Council once every week and summons the Secretary of Defence, all the relevant authorities and inquires into the security condition of the country. He finally added that every head of the security division are kept up to date and necessary security protocols are implemented to safeguard the general public of the country.
