Railway workers on continuous strike since midnight

Colombo (News 1st) - Railway workers have been reportedly on strike since the midnight of yesterday (26 September) citing several demands including salary anomalies. Secretary of Railway Station Masters Association Janaka Fernando stated that employees of several unions including railway drivers and controllers will be joining the protest as well. The Office trains which run in the morning were cancelled due to the ongoing protests today while all the night mail trains had been cancelled as of yesterday. The passengers have been placed in difficult situations due to the protests. Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Ashok Abeysinghe has informed the trade unions to cease the protests in order to discuss their matters. Meanwhile, the Ceylon Transport Board (CTB) has decided to cancel all holidays of the bus drivers and conductors immediately due to the protests led by the railway workers. Chief Operating Officer of CTB Nihal Hidellaarachchi stated that holidays of other employees have been limited inclusively.
