Vehicles imported for personal use between 2015 and 2017 get special tax benefit

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Ministry of Finance announced that the government has decided to issue a relief period for the clearance process of the vehicles imported between 2015-2017 for personal use. Ministry further added that the ministry is willing to ignore amended taxes and clear the relevant vehicles for the production taxes if they were imported by an individual and letters of credit were issued in their name. Ministry went on to note that those who could confirm the vehicles were imported for their personal use via accepted agents will also be able to clear their vehicles during this special tax relief period. The announcement declares that the applications of clearance should reach the Director-General of the 

Treasury Department of Fiscal Policy before September 30th in order to start the process.

The vehicles which should have been cleared by the Customs during this special tax relief period and should be registered under the name of the person which it was imported, within a period of 30 days.
