Heavy rains and strong winds expected in several areas

COLOMBO (News 1st) -The Met Department has issued a heavy rain warning and advisory for strong winds and rough seas. Prevailing showery conditions in the South-western parts of the country are expected to escalate during the next few days. Showers or thundershowers will occur occasionally in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and North-western provinces. Heavy rainfalls about 150 mm are likely at some places. The Met Department also noted there is a possibility of wind speeds increasing up to 60-70 kmph at times in the sea area extending from Balapitiya to Pottuvil via Galle and Hambanthota. Naval and fishing communities are requested to be vigilant in this regards.
