Colombo (News 1st): The Department of Irrigation says, the water levels of the Kelani, Kalu, and Gin rivers have risen as a result of persistent rains. Director of Water Management at the Department of Irrigation, Mala Alawathuwala said, residents living in close vicinity to the aforementioned rivers should be vigilant of the situation.
Meanwhile, the National Building Research Organisation says, the landslide warning which was issued to 4 districts, is still in effect and added, those who are residing in landslide-prone areas should evacuate the areas immediately.
On a similar note, The Department of Meteorology predicts that the showery condition over the island is expected to continue further. Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central and North-Western provinces. Heavy falls above 100 mm are likely at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and Central provinces.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places elsewhere after 2.00 p.m.
