COLOMBO (News 1st):- The convention of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) in the Ratnapura District was held at the Seewali grounds at Ratnapura today (September 15). Speaking at the event President Maithripala Sirisena stated these views on the discussions between the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna. He said that when speaking about these discussions on forming alliances and fronts that everyone and all parties should remember the main reason why the government fell at the elections on the 8th of January in 2015. He further said that although certain people say that the SLFP is useless, that they do not hold any power and that they do not have more than 4-5 hundred thousand votes or any force to be reckoned with, the President questions who the village-level party members of the Pohottuwa are, and stated that they are all SLFP supporters. He claimed that they are the people who keep the entire group of Pohottuwa MPs in the parliament. President Sirisena said that although the leaders of the Pohottuwa understand the concept of gratitude that the second tier of the party does not understand any such thing and think that they are right. He further said that both the UNP and the SLPP has called them, but that they chose to not hold discussions with the UNP, neither have they had public or secretive discussions. He added that it is because they have many matters that they cannot come to terms with the UNP.
