COLOMBO (News 1st):- The Election Commission is now vested with the power to hold the elections starting from today (September 15). So when will the elections actually be held? News 1st's Amila Munasinghe spoke directly with the Chairman of the National Elections Commission. News 1st: When will the Presidential election be held? Chairman - Election Commission, Mahinda Deshapriya:- It will be held on a date decided by the Election Commission on any day between November 15th and December 10th, except on November 23rd and December 7th. News 1st:- Starting today you are vested with the power to hold the elections? Chairman - Election Commission, Mahinda Deshapriya:- It would have been good if we could have called for nominations today itself, but today is Sunday. But we can issue this order starting from tomorrow. But we will not issue it tomorrow either, because one political party has forced us and said that we must issue this order tomorrow. The government or the opposition or any political party cannot dictate terms to us. The Elections Commission will do whatever the Elections Commission wants. Any day that the three of us want. That is the best day.
