COLOMBO (News 1st):- The Presidential Commission probing into alleged financial irregularities at state institutions has commenced an investigation into an alleged fraud that has occurred while granting permits to duty-free shops at the Bandaranaike International Airport.
The case was taken up following a complaint made by the JVPs former Western Province Minister Asanka Ranla. He had specifically mentioned that when granting a permit for certain shops that the authorities had evaded the due process along with fraudulent financial statements to support it.
The PCOI stated that the former Minister will be summoned before the commission on the 17th of this month to record evidence on this case. An official of the PCOI said that they are also due to summon the Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority over the matter.
