Colombo (News 1st) - The journalists raised a question if the backbench MPs, supporting the Podujana Peramuna are ready to support the candidate at the presidential election, under a different symbol. In response to this, the MPs had expressed the following views. MP of UPFA, Piyal Nishantha de Silva stated that if the Pohottuwa symbol is being removed, he would personally take a political decision because the Pohottuwa symbol or the flower bud, has become the symbol that the general public is asking for. He added that in accordance with his personal opinion they are not ready to change this symbol. MP of UPFA, Arundika Fernando stated that they will take a flexible stance regarding the symbol during the next parliamentary election. "However, in the run-up for the presidential election, this has taken a narrow path", he added. Journalists raised a question whether he is informed of their promise to give them the highest position in the proposed alliance to which he replied that he is unaware of such a promise. Journalists further specified the question as President being appointed as the Chairman of the proposed alliance. Arundika Fernando stated that if the president has pure intentions to send the UNP government home, they have no issue with whatever the decision that is taken during discussions. He noted that there was some sort of an understanding when the Prime Minister was appointed but they were negatively affected by this as well.
