Reuters: Carolina Herrera’s creative director Wes Gordon created a runway inside Battery Gardens to debut his floral-inspired spring/summer 2020 collection at New York Fashion Week on Monday (September 9). Models crisscrossed under a clear tent specially made for the show.
“The collection was actually the super bloom. That botanical phenomenon that happened in May, April, June. So, I thought there was no better place to set the collection in. And I just spent the past month crossing my fingers about the rain,” said Gordon.
Gordon said the brand is working under the theme of color, print, beauty, joy and wanted to showcase those elements in the new line.
“This season I really turned up the volume. The flowers were huge, the polka dots were big. There were beautiful silk gazars that were twisted and draped to look like a blossoming rose. We had a beautiful coded canvas to lend kind of a neutral. And the polka dots are as Herrera as Herrera can be, black and white polka dots. And we had them in all different sizes and fabrications.”
The American fashion house will celebrate the opening of its newly renovated flagship store on Madison avenue tonight with a star-studded party.
“It’s been the Herrera home for many years and after a year and a half of planning and ten months of construction, we’re reopening. It’s so beautiful I love it so much and I cannot wait for these clothes to be hanging in there.”
New York Fashion Week will end on September 11 after five days and nights of shows.
