4-member committee to decide presidential candidate for UNP

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Minister Navin Dissanayake revealed that a committee was appointed to take a decision regarding the next Presidential Candidate from the United National Party. Minister Navin Dissanayake, National Organiser of the UNP noted that Deputy Leader and the Leader had decided to appoint a committee to come up with a decision on the presidential candidate for the UNP. He added that leader Ranil Wickremesinghe appointed Dinesh Weerakkody and Dr Rajitha Senaratne while Deputy Leader selected Ranjith Maddumabandara and Kabir Hashim. He went on to note that the committee is to scrutinize four aspects, social analysis, reports, opinions, polls and decide the ideal candidate who could win the election. He added that however that single research would not be adequate enough, and they needed to consider more aspects such as Sinhala Buddhist votes, minority, UNP vote base and decide the candidate.
