Colombo (News 1st): President Maithripala Sirisena instructed officials to expedite the process of amending the laws to prevent terrorism and to enforce new laws on the matter.
The President was addressing a meeting of the Sectoral Oversight Committee on National Security and according to the President’s media division, this is the first time in Sri Lankan Parliament history a sitting president attended such a meeting.
President Maithripala Sirisena said the Attorney General had informed him that appearing before the Parliamentary Select Committee probing the April 21st attacks was at his discretion.
The President said he would, however, take a decision in the best interests of national security and as an individual who respects democracy.
