Padmasili returns home after 12 years of captivity in a Saudi Arabian house

Colombo (News 1st): A Sri Lankan migrant worker who was held captive in a house for 12 years in Saudi Arabia arrived in the country yesterday (September 06). This victim of modern-day slavery named Padmasili Vitharana is a 59-year-old resident of Wellathota, Matara. She left to Saudi Arabia in 2006 and since then she had become a prisoner in the house of her employer. Following News 1st’s revelation, officials from the Sri Lankan embassy in Saudi Arabia took steps to rescue her. Since her rescue, a year-ago Padmaseeli was living in a detention centre in Saudi Arabia till the legalities were completed.
