Colombo (News 1st) - Former Minister Sarath Fonseka made the following comments on the UNP's presidential candidate. He stated in response to a question put forward by the journalists regarding the names proposed for the presidential candidacy, that in accordance with the current situation, the Prime Minister seems to be the contestant. Journalists presented Sarath Fonseka's statement made on the impracticality of Sajith Premadasa's proposals that has become a reason for the delay. Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade, Nalin Bandara made the following comments in response to Sarath Fonseka's statements. He reasoned that Sarath Fonseka is not a person who has contested from the United National Party. "At the 2015 polls, his political party did not even secure 40,000 votes. He came from the national list", he continued. He stated that Fonseka has made wrong decisions and his voter base of 300,000 dropped to just 25,000. He further reasoned that Fonseka's perspective is not the stance of the UNP as he is just one person. "Majority of the UNP requests for Sajith Premadasa to be named as the presidential candidate", he continued.
