JVP Presidential candidate's promise to conduct civilized politics

COLOMBO (News1st):- Local Government Representatives of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna met in Colombo today (September 1). The meeting was chaired by the Presidential Candidate of the National People's Power Movement Anura Kumara Dissanayake. A number of Local Government representatives of the JVP also attended the meeting. The promotional campaign of the National People's Power Movement also commenced today (September 1). JVP MPs Vijitha Herath, Sunil Handunnetti, Dr Nalinda Jayatissa, Samanmali Gunasinghe, and several others attended the event. Addressing the gathering, the Central Committee member of the JVP, Dr Nalinda Jayatissa questioned the people how those who were sent by the government with the power to develop villages and the group that agitated to appoint Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Prime Minister, acted in the past. He said that a Pohottuwa Municipal Councillor who is a man who was evading arrest for smuggling heroin was arrested at the residence of Mahinda's councillor, Arundika, all belonging to the Yatinuwara Pradeshiya Sabha. Further, he said that a Pohottuwa member from Dambulla who stabbed a man was also arrested, while in the Katana Pradeshiya Sabha, three individuals including Mahinda's Pradeshiya Sabha members were arrested for the possession of firearms. Listing out similar incidents, he said that there was a case filed against the Kurunegala Mayor for threatening a person at gunpoint, a member from the Mahinda faction who was caught for stealing water pumps in the Ipalogama PS and another Pohottuwa member from the Ukkuwela Pradeshiya Sabha who was taken to custody for abusing a schoolgirl. Jayatissa further said that in addition a Pradeshiya Sabha member and 13 others were even caught gambling inside a house, who were members from the Maithripala Sirisena faction of the SLFP. He also continued to say that there is no big difference in the UNP in such a context as well because the UNP Karuwalagaswewa Pradeshiya Sabha member was arrested for the possession of heroin while another Angunukolapelessa Pradeshiya Sabha UNP member was arrested for the theft of money and jewellery. He attributes all these acts to the reason for people to be fed up of politics as a whole. Also speaking at the gathering, JVP Presidential candidate himself said that no one voted in the UNP urging them to break the CBSL, or to impose taxes on people nor to rob the property of the people. He said that this is the same thing that one could expect from the Mahinda Rajapaksa campaign as well. He assured the people that it is only him along with the party members and its supporters who could carry a clean flag of civilized politics forward.
